Students give Cayce DPS officers, firefighters a special thank you

WEST COLUMBIA, SC -- Cayce Elementary students had a special surprise Friday for police officers and firefighters.

Students with the school’s Service Club hand-colored about 100 bags and stuffed them with goodies as part of National Thank A Police Officer Day, which is Saturday, Sept. 21. Roughly 20 members of the Cayce Department of Public Safety turned out to receive the gifts for the department, as crowds of fellow students cheered.

"We truly appreciate our Cayce officers and all they do for us," said Assistant Principal Elaine Lundy, who is an adviser for the Service Club along with Amy Tribble.  "Cayce does more than just keep us safe. They are building relationships with our students through community activities, reading with our students and eating lunch with them. We also have a fabulous SRO from Cayce.”

Cayce Elementary’s Service Club includes second through fifth grade students. Among future projects they’re considering are a fall food drive, a kindness rock garden and helping the homeless.
